Find a Place of Your Own in the Tropics

Bahia is a tropical state in Brazil. The area surrounding Bahia's capital Salvador is the perfect spot for your own place in the Tropics. This site introduces houses, apartments and lands for sale through estate agent Joaquim Cardoso Barreto (CRECI-BA No 7356). The properties have been chosen to fit non-Brazilians looking for a comfortable, safe and calm place in a sunny climate. You can phone Joaquim at +55 (0)71 88719864 or e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The site also holds a tourist guide for the area surrounding Salvador, the capital of Bahia, and some advice to non-Brazilians considering buying a place of their own in tropical Brazil. The tourist guide is run by the Swedish company Villa Itaparica, which also is happy to answer questions and to assist in the contact with Joaquim Cardoso Barreto. The climate is comfortable all year round with 25-34 degrees centigrade, a cooling breeze from the sea and humidity that is just right. The sea stays close to 26 degrees centigrade all year round. The rainy season lasts from April to June. The rest of the year offers sunny periods interrupted now and then by some refreshing rain.

Health problems like psoriasis and pains caused by arthrosis or rheumatic disorders usually improve a lot in Bahia's climate. Also, there are very few tropical diseases in this area, and Salvador has some world class hospitals. Natural hazards are very uncommon in Bahia: no hurricanes, tornados or earth-quakes and no serious draughts in the coastal areas.

It is easy to get here since there are direct international flights to Salvador.

The economy is stable in Brazil, Latin America's major economy. This makes the housing market stable, too. Property prices vary between different districts, but you can still make a bargain here when buying a house. In June, 2009, independent experts noted that the selling of properties and houses has risen again, and that the effects of the global economic crisis have been overcome as to the housing market. The cost of living is favourable compared to many First World countries.
The political situation is stable, since Brazil is a democratic nation, a stronghold of democracy in South America. Eco-tourists will find big natural reserves, a lush green landscape and many different eco-systems. Most tourists in this area are Brazilians. This means you will meet the genuine Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian cultures in Bahia.

Safety is good as long as you avoid certain areas (read more about this in our page with advice to house buyers). Bahia offers you calm and relaxed living in a lush green landscape. Whenever you start longing for fancy restaurants, museums, clubs, shopping or just sitting in a street café watching the crowds passing by, you just take a day-trip to Salvador. You can rest assured Salvador offers anything you can wish from a big city.
